Our extracurricular activities are carefully planned to support our curriculum and children’s learning. We provide the best possible opportunities, be that participating in a spelling bee, joining the robotics team or representing the school in a debating competition.

A series of fun and engaging learning days are scheduled throughout the academic year. They include:

• Having career aspirations.
• Keeping safe online.

De Bohun pupils develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive as individuals, and as members of families and social and economic communities. Through this learning, our pupils become responsible for the health of their bodies, minds and relationships.

Personal development builds self-esteem and emotional intelligence. Pupils learn about their own feelings and emotions, and how to manage them effectively.

Social development - Pupils learn about forming positive relationships, effective communication, teamwork and respecting diversity. They develop skills to interact with others in a respectful and inclusive manner.

Health and wellbeing - This covers topics like physical health, nutrition, exercise and personal hygiene. Pupils also learn about mental health and strategies for positive emotional wellbeing.

Economic education - Pupils learn about the importance of money management, including budgeting and saving.

Our School Council gives pupils a voice in decisions about the school. Through their class representative, all pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all of their classmates in reaching a democratic solution.

Wider issues that arise are discussed further at School Council meetings and this ensures that as many pupil voices as possible are heard. Pupils at De Bohun know that this is their school and that their thoughts and ideas matter.

Our children represent the school in the Ivy Parliament, a thriving and influential body within Ivy Learning Trust. Every year, new representatives from each Ivy school are elected to join the Parliament, which gives children a voice in educational and social issues.

Pupils meet regularly to discuss current themes and decide on an action plan for the year. In the past they have written to MPs, visited the Houses of Parliament, appeared in the local press and successfully lobbied to ban single-use plastic bottles from all Ivy schools.

Children can have lessons in a range of musical instruments. Lessons take place during the school day and are run by Enfield Music Service. Please contact them directly to book a place.

Year groups take part in Enfield-wide singing festivals. This offers the children both performance opportunities and the chance to sing in massed choirs. A weekly choir activity is offered and is open to all KS2 pupils and a clarinet group is run for children who have achieved a suitable standard after a period of study.

Termly concert performance opportunities are arranged and pupils perform to their peers in school as well. Our choir has also performed at local secondary schools and in charity fundraising concerts locally.

Our children celebrate Safer Internet Day, which promotes safer and more responsible use of online technology by children and young people.

Children in Years 1 and 2 have weekly lessons in British Sign Language (BSL). These lessons are taught by a specialist BSL instructor who also educates the children about deaf awareness. Not only does it make our school more inclusive, it has academic benefits too, improving vocabulary, fine motor skills, memory retention and self-esteem.
